The World Series of Fighting 26 card received a massive blow this week with the news that
Tyrone Spong is injured and out of his light heavyweight bout with Jake Heun.
The much anticipated return of Tyrone Spong to mixed martial arts has been delayed once more, with the news yet another injury has put him out of WSOF 26. Spong, regarded as one of the best kickboxers one the planet, boasting a record of 74-7-1 against the very best competition in the world, has had a frustrating time in MMA, managing only two (successful) fights in the sport, making his debut in 2012.
Since he last competed in MMA, he suffered a devastating leg fracture in a K-1 bout with Gokhan Saki, and spent over a year coming back to full fitness. It was hoped by fans that the Blackzillians product would finally be ready to make his mark, with a number of promotions keen to tie him down to a long-term contract. He even offered his services to the Dana White when Stipe Miocic withdrew from his match-up with Ben Rothwell at UFC Ireland.
There is no confirmation on the nature or extent of Spong's latest set-back; however, it is clear that it will be at least 2016 before the world class striker sees the inside of the cage again.
