Two highlights have been added to the Bellator 172: Fedor vs. Mitrione main card on February 18th at SAP Centre in San Jose, California - A heavyweight brawl pitting Cheick Kongo(25-10-2) versus Oli Thompson(17-9) and a clash between undefeated lightweights Adam Piccolotti(9-0) and Brent Primus(7-0).
France’s Kongo shows a record of 37 fights in his career, 25 of which were wins, including 12 knockouts. The knockout artist joined Bellator MMA in 2013 and has since won seven out of nine contests, including three consecutive victories. Most recently, Cheick Kongo defeated Tony Johnson at Bellator 161: Kongo vs. Johnson.
The British sensation Oli Thompson, from East Sussex, England, enters the matchup looking for his first career win under the Bellator MMA banner. The former title-holder of Britain’s Strongest Man competition started his fighting career in 2015 and won five of his last six bouts, including a pair of brutal first round knockouts. In total the 36-year-old ‘Spartan’ shows a record of 17 career wins, 13 of which were finishes, including seven knockouts.
Fighting out of Half Moon Bay, California, undefeated Adam Piccolotti returns to San Jose, where he has dominated the sport over the past few years. Out of five fights under Bellator MMA - 28-year-old was victorious in all of them – four were consecutive victories in the ‘Capital of Silicon Valley’. Most recently Piccolotti ended Brandon Girtz three-fight winning streak. With his ‘lethal combination of flawless jiu-jitsu and striking’ Piccolotti has finished six out of nine opponents and three of his past four, which makes him ‘one of the most dangerous weapons in the 155-pound division’.
Piccolotti’s opponent Brent Primus is undefeated as well. 31-year-old Primus kicked-off his professional MMA career with collecting first round finishes in each of his first five fights. Hailing from Portland, Oregon, the five-time Bellator MMA veteran’s highlight in 2016 was a key win over Brazilian veteran ‘Toninho Furia’.
The Bellator 172 night’s main event features Fedor Emelianenko(36-4, 1NC), who will be competing on American soil for the first time since 2011, and Matt Mitrione(11-5).
