On March 18th, the UFC returns with Fight Night 108 to London’s O2 Arena and according to the Swedish MMA outlet MMANytt the fight card’s first bout is confirmed - Swedish lightweight Reza Madadi(14-4) clashes with Irishman Joseph Duffy(16-2).
38-year-old Reza Madadi shows a record of 3-2 in the UFC and most notably defeated Michael Johnson via unanimous decision in April 2013. In his last bout – last May in Rotterdam - Sweden’s ‘Mad Dog’ finished Yan Cabral via third-round TKO.
After submitting Mitch Clarke in just 25 seconds back in July, Donegal native Joseph Duffy agreed to take on Reza Madadi in the final bout of his five-fight contract with the UFC. Although, Duffy stopped all his opponents in the UFC during the first round - aside from a decision loss to Dustin Poirier – he is prepared to leave the UFC after the London event.
To The42 Duffy said on Monday: “Before they [the UFC] used to say you’ll be rewarded if you put on exciting fights. I think I’ve done that but it’s becoming less about the fights and more about the drama and the showmanship and everything else. I’m not that type of person, I’m probably never going to be, so I have to set my stall out early. Otherwise I’m kind of wasting my time.”
However, before assessing his options as a free agent, the Irishman definitely aims for a win on St Patrick’s weekend.
