Extending his unbeaten record to 26 straight victories, ‘King Kong’ Ortiz made his European debut in Monte Carlo last Saturday and ‘outclassed’ his opponent Malik Scott. However, forced to settle for a wide points win, the Cuban heavyweight experienced a frustrating night and accuses his opponent Scott of ‘running’: “Malik was running around the ring and made it hard to come and fight. Everybody comes to see a show. They want to see people fight and brawl and it made it difficult for me.” “I’m a little disappointed because I would have liked to knock him out, but him running around made it hard. But it’s boxing, I won the fight, I’m happy.” Promoter Eddie Hearn had some harsh words for the American too: “In my opinion, he was afraid from round one. Disappointing from Malik Scott. These guys have got to come to win and we will find someone on December 10 who will come to win, and then you will see the best of Luis Ortiz.” On December 10th, Anthony Joshua is to defend his IBF title against Eric Molina at the Manchester Arena, and ‘King Kong’ is more than willing to appear on the undercard in front of the British fans: “I’m ready. If Eddie Hearn says he’s ready to put me on December 10, I’m ready to fight anybody.” One fighter who has put himself forward as a possible opponent for Ortiz in Manchester is David Allen: “He looks older than the real King Kong, so why am I going to fear a 70-year-old man? I don’t think he’s what he’s hyped up to be, but I will give him more opportunity than Malik Scott to show he is the real deal.” “He definitely will not blow me away and I definitely will not run away, and that’s what I can promise.” Allen alias ‘White Rhino’, who showed a record of nine wins and one draw, suffered his first professional defeat on points against Dillian Whyte - because he did not show enough attacking ambition. The heavyweight, still disappointed with his own performance back in July, vowed to ‘engage Ortiz in an exciting battle’.
