It seems that
Conor McGregor has learnt from his submission loss to
Nate Diaz at
UFC 196 and is seeking to improve the standard of his grappling partners with the addition of jiu jitsu prodigy
Dillon Danis to his training camp.
In the build up to UFC 196, Conor McGregor got the best of the verbal jousting, as is his custom. However, Diaz has been playing this game at a high level for over a decade, and was able to land a few memorable shots of his own.
One particular barb that seemed to sting McGregor was Diaz's dismissal of the quality of his training partners. The Stockton observed- rightly, as it turned out- that he was training with the very best in the world in their disciplines including, Joe Schilling (Kickboxing), Andre Ward (boxing) and Kron Gracie (BJJ), and that the Irishman had nothing he hadn't seen before.
Well if complacency in that area is what contributed to the Featherweight World Champion's defeat, he is clearly determined not to repeat his folly. In addition to sparring with former boxing champ Chis Van Heerden, Dillon Danis recently posted this picture of the two training together:
Danis is one of the hottest BJJ prospects in the world. After just five years of training he won the BJJ world championship at brown belt level, earning himself his blackbelt last year from Marcelo Garcia, a man widely regarded as the greatest jiu jitsu practitioner of all-time.
Conor may only have a couple of months to make any necessary improvements, but it's clear that this time he's determined to push himself to the limit in his preparations.
