Yesterday rumours began to emerge from numerous
MMA outlets that
Kevin Ferguson Jr. was a candidate to replace his recently deceased father,
Kimbo Slice, at
Bellator 158 in London.
#WHOATV can now reveal that is NOT true, and the promotion is looking for a new opponent.
Less than 24 hours after the death of Kevin 'Kimbo Slice' Ferguson, several prominent media sources were suggesting that Bellator had approached his son as a possible replacement for the London card his father was due to fight on.
This move seemed extraordinary, both for its inherent tastelessness, and the fact that Kevin Ferguson Jr. is not only a fighter with just one amateur bout to his name, but that he weighed in for that sole fight at 175 lbs.
It is now widely believed among those privy to the off-record briefing that people close to the promotion leaked this story as a means to garner publicity, and possibly to gauge the public appetite for such a spectacle.
Invariably, the notion of such a match-up was greeted with contempt by fans and pundits alike. As a consequence Bellator will now try to find an alternative bout for English veteran James 'The Colossus' Thompson on a card that has already been damaged by the withdrawal of Josh Koscheck from his rematch with Paul Daley.
