TMZ caught up with martial arts movie legend
Jean-Claude Van Damme outside a gym in LA this week and asked him about
Paige Van Zant and the
UFC. His message was simple: he's big Paige fan, but UFC fighters suck at kicking!
There aren't many actors with the cult martial arts movie status of Jean-Claude Van Damme. The only exception may be Steven Seagal who, somewhat infamously, trained with Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida, even claiming to have taught the former light-heavyweight champion the front kick he used to knock out Randy Couture.
The Belgian karateka has often been rumoured to have been training for an exhibition fight in MMA or K-1, but now, at the age of 55, that seems unlikely. However, he is clearly still in great shape, and when talking to
TMZ about Paige Van Zant's involvement in the
Kickboxer reboot, took a moment to show where the UFC's best are going wrong.
Van Damme commented to TMZ:
"Right now, it's a mess [kicking]. They are missing, they are out of balance. Thank god they have good jiu-jitsu."
"If I can give some of my knowledge to some of those amazing UFC fighters in terms of legs, I have a lot to teach."
The Hollywood star then demonstrated how perform kicks properly with a friend for the benefit of the cameras. Van-Damme recently did some training with the Diaz brothers, so it's possible we may see some properly executed spinning s**t inside the Octagon sometime soon.
